Happy Flag Day!
🇺🇸 Celebrating Flag Day – June 14th 🇺🇸
Every year on June 14th, Americans celebrate Flag Day to honor the birth of the Stars and Stripes—the official flag of the United States.
📜 On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution stating:
“Resolved, That the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
This marked the beginning of the flag as a symbol of unity, freedom, and national pride.
💡 While Flag Day is not a federal holiday, many communities across the country hold parades, ceremonies, and educational events to reflect on the flag’s meaning and history.
✨ Fun Fact: The idea to officially recognize Flag Day was popularized by a Wisconsin schoolteacher named Bernard J. Cigrand in 1885. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 to establish it, and in 1949, President Harry Truman signed it into law as a national observance.
So, if you see flags flying a little more proudly today, now you know why!
